Books I have read lately that are worth mentioning.
My reading life lately has been slow. I was telling a friend the other day that the last book I read left a bad taste in my mouth, and it has detered me from picking up my usual genre of books. I have been in a romance novel phase here lately. I generally tend to read more romance during the Summer time. I am not sure why, I guess its because of all the heat.
Anywho, I won’t mention the name of the book that left me feeling blah towards romance novels. I will mention some other books that I have read this Summer that I truly enjoyed. This list is in no particular order.
- Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur. I actually picked this book up from Walmart about a year ago and for whatever reason never got around to reading it. I finally picked it up and started reading it at the beginning of the summer. This book for me was a slow read. This book is a series of poems. At first, I was kind of taken aback, because of how simply written the book is. Once I got over that, I was able to enjoy the poetry in the book. I enjoyed more than one poem from this book and will be looking for more books by this author.
- The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce. This book had me in tears. It is so beautifully written. I missed more than a few hours of sleep, because I had to finish reading this one. I was a little shocked at the ending. The entire book is beautiful and shows how we must all come to terms with what life has given us.
- This Is Just My Face:Try Not to Stare by Gabourey Sidibe. I have watched the movie Precious and because of that movie, I honeslty didn’t realize how many layers there were to Gabourey Sidibe. This book had me laughing, crying and in deep thought. I truly love her story. She is a beautiful soul. While reading this memoir, I did do some self reflecting and some self adjusting. I am so glad I picked this book up.
- The Betrayal (Abram’s Daughter #2) by Beverly Lewis. I have already purchased the third book in this series and am so looking forward to reading it uninterrupted. Book #2 in this series really had me heated. I am slightly disgusted with how Sadie is behaving. No Spoilers though. I hope she finally gets her head on straight and starts acting like the big sister she is. Leah is still a beautiful soul and I know she will be blessed for staying true to her upbringing. #teamleah
It is starting to cool down a little outside so I am looking forward to reading a good thriller or fantasy. I may jump right into book 3 of the Abram’s Daughter’s Series or I may wait until spring. I would hate for Sadie’s actions to ruin my holiday season LOL.
