After nearly a year of no solo travel, I decided to take a day trip to Jackson, MS.
I love taking day trips to bookstores, and not having anything to do once I get there but look through the shelves is always a plus.
After doing a google search of bookstores within a certain mile radius of me, I stumbled across the Lemuria bookstore in Jackson. I did some research on them and found they were listed on The Best Bookstores in All 50 States, the same list as the Square Bookstore in Oxford, MS that I solo visited last year.
Like the Square Bookstore, The Lemuria bookstore did not disappoint.
This bookstore is jammed full of all the top sellers and new releases. Every single corner is full of books. I fell in love before I even walked through the front door. YES THERE ARE EVEN BOOKS FLOWING OUT OF THE STORE!!!
Lemuria is hidden inside of a small shopping complex called Banner Hall. When you enter through the front you are greeted by the bakery on the first floor. The entrance to Lemuria is amazing, above the front door is a huge statue of a hand holding an open book! How inviting is that!
Navigating the store was confusing at first, because of the many rooms, but once I realized each room was dedicated to a specific genre I fell in love. The staff here is extremely helpful and were more than willing to help me look for any books I couldn’t find. One staff member spent more than five minutes searching the shelves with me for a childhood favorite of mine Ramona by Beverly Cleary. I still believe that he was happier than I was when we finally found it.
I ended up picking up three books, Pachinku by Min Jin Lee, The Spy by Paulo Coelho and Ramona Quimby Age 8 by Beverly Cleary. I look forward to reading these as much as I looked forward to my solo trip.
I must admit that solo travel has definitely become a pastime that I truly enjoy. I do want to make more solo trips in the future, maybe even taking a solo cruise. Being able to go wherever, without worrying about making plans with someone else is awesome!
If you have never taken a solo trip, I highly recommend planning one. It doesn’t have to be far or for long, just go off on your own for a few hours.
